Problem Description

-------------------

When using RMAN to restore a database, where the RMAN backup

is located on a remote node, this fails with errors like:

(In example below H: is a mapped network drive).

RMAN-10035: exception raised in RPC: ORA-19505: failed to identify file

"H:BACKUP_RMANBACKUP15_RMAN1_432213015"

ORA-27041: unable to open file

OSD-04002: unable to open file

O/S-Error: (OS 5) Permission denied.

Solution Description

Make sure the remote network drive can be accessed by the internal (NT)

system account.

Alternatively start the OracleServiceSID for the target database temporarily

under an NT account which has privileges to read the remote network drive

(this option can be found in the 'services'icon in the WIN NT Control Panel).

Explanation

-----------

The 'remote' RMAN file is being accessed by the Oracle process.

This process is by default started under the NT system account.

This account however does not have privileges to access remote devices.

So either use

to make the remote device accessible

for the system account, or temporarily start the OracleServiceSID under

another account.
